In the case of a server crash and recovery, you might need to restore and then reconcile the DHCP database. To force DHCP to restore the database from backup, follow these steps:
1. If necessary, restore a good copy of the %SystemRoot%\System32\DHCP\Backup directory from the archive. Afterward, start the DHCP console, right-click the server you want to restore, and then click Restore.
2. In the Browse For Folder dialog box, select the folder that contains the backup you want to restore, and then click OK.
3. During restoration of the database, the DHCP Server service is stopped. As a result, DHCP clients are temporarily unable to contact the DHCP server to obtain IP addresses.

 

Notes

  • To perform this procedure you must be a member of the Administrators group or the DHCP Administrators group on the DHCP server.
  • To open DHCP, click Start, click Settings, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click DHCP.
  • Only a DHCP database backed up from the same Windows Server version can be restored. Restoring a DHCP database from a different Windows server version is not supported. To migrate a DHCP database from one Windows Server version to another, use the netsh export/import command.
  • Only DHCP databases from the same language version can be restored. For example, a DHCP database from DHCP server running an English language version of the operating system cannot be restored to a DHCP server running a Japanese language version of the operating system.
  • To restore the DHCP database, the DHCP service is temporarily stopped. When it is stopped, DHCP clients are unable to contact the DHCP server and obtain IP addresses.

How to reset Microsoft Office settings to factory defaults

To reset Microsoft Office programs to its default setting you need to delete corresponding registry key.

Follow these steps:

  1. Quit all Microsoft Office programs.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate following registry key:
    • for Office 2010: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\
    • for Office 2007: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\
    • for Office 2003: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\
    • for Office XP: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\
    • for Office 2000: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\
  4. Under this key there is a key for each Office product (Word, Excel, etc.) that you need to delete. Click to select it.
    Note: Always export the registry key before performing following step in case something went wrong or you want to reverse changes later. Simply right click and select export.
  5. Make sure the right key is selected and click Delete on the Edit menu.
  6. Start Office program to verify changes.
